Four Seasonal Tips To Make 2025 the Year of No Pests

As you’re making resolutions for the new year, why not add one to the list that’s simple and effective: preventing pests year-round.

By taking one preventative step each season, you can enjoy a pest-free home all year. Mark your calendar with this seasonal checklist and make 2024 the year of no pests.

Winter: Seal Entry Points

When temperatures drop, rodents and insects look for places to keep warm, and your home might be their top choice. Inspect your doors, windows, and foundation for cracks or gaps, and seal them with caulk or weatherstripping. Don’t forget to check areas like your attic, where rodents and other animals can sneak in unnoticed.

Spring: Remove Standing Water

Spring showers may bring flowers, but they also bring mosquitoes and other water-loving pests. Walk around your property and empty anything that collects water, like buckets, planters, and birdbaths. Cleaning out your gutters is another great way to prevent standing water from becoming a breeding ground for insects.

Summer: Tidy Up Your Yard

When the weather warms up, pests like ants, wasps, and ticks come out in droves. Keep them out of your yard and your home by trimming overgrown bushes and trees. Make sure branches, trimmings, and firewood are kept away from your house so these pests aren’t encouraged to make the jump from the outdoors to inside your home.

Fall: Clear Out Clutter

As the leaves begin to change, pests start looking for cozy spots to nest for the winter. Declutter your garage, attic, and basement to eliminate hiding places for critters like rodents and roaches. Storing items in airtight containers instead of cardboard boxes can make a huge difference in keeping your home pest-free.
